Abstract

The influence of the estradiol on calcium metabolism of the rat tissues(cardiac muscle, cerebrum, kidney and adrenal gland) has been carried out by autoradiographic method (stripping-film technique).
In the cardiac muslele and liver there was minimum radioactivity both in control and estradiol-treated group
In the cerebrum the moderate radioactivity of calcium-45 was observed in cortex and medulla of the control group, however, the estradiol-treated group revealed more radioactivity, especially in the cerebral cortex.
n . In the glomerulus and convoluted tubule of the estradiol-treated kidney there were more black.silver grains due to radioactivity of calcium-45 than the control group. But the collecting. tubules did not reveal any difference between two groups.
In ¢¥the - adrenal gland of the control group the radioactivity was observed only in the membrane and Amedulla.¢¥ In the estradiol-treated group, however, the medulla showed remarkable increase in the black silver grains. These grains were so packed that no individual grain could be distinguished even under a high power field.
These data indicate that estradiol might play a role in retention of calcium in the various tissues of the rat.
